Blog #42- Practice feature story

This is the practice feature story the I will be writing on Angel Hong:

Angel hong is a hard working and dedicated student. She strives to do the best that she can when working on things and when helping people out. But the recent covid pandemic has altered her mind and her way of thinking. While Angel does care about school and her grades she has become more lazy and less proactive due to the effects the pandemic had on her. Although the pandemic has impacted her negatively she Is doing as much as she can to get rid of her laziness and return to the hard working student that she once was.  But being a good student isn't all there is to Angel. She's also a wonderful, nice, and caring person. If she sees people in need she will do everything she can to help that person to the best of her abilities. In an interview Angel said  "That If I had superman's powers I would do my best to help people, try to lower crime, solve problems regular humans can't, and just try to make the world a better place overall." This shows how good of a person Angel is and the lengths she would go to in order to make the world a better place. While Angel seems like a great person, just like everyone else she has her own fears and embarrassing  moments. But despite all this she won't let these obstacles get in her way of reaching her current goal which is to get into a university.

Blog#39- Preliminary Task: Feature story practice #3

Today i'm going to be practicing writing my third lead for my feature story.

Background information: A lead is the opening part of a story that catches and pulls the reader into the story. It should capture the spirit of the story and create the proper tone. Can often be longer than one sentence, should be in the third person, and not filled with clichés.

The type of lead I will be attempting today is a Descriptive one.

Story

The police in this municipality received a call at 3:45 p.m. yesterday afternoon. A woman shouted at the sergeant who answered the telephone. She said: "My son's been beaten. His teacher whipped him this afternoon, and he's all red where she paddled him. Can teachers do that? That's assault and battery, and I want her arrested." Two police officers were sent to the home. They questioned the boy, who is 9 years old. At his mother's insistence, the police officers also inspected the boy's reported injuries. They reported: "We couldn't tell that the boy had been paddled. His fanny didn't look red to us, but we did notice that his pants legs were wet and muddy. As we talked, it became obvious that he boy was lying. He finally admitted that he had stopped to play on the way home from school, forgot the time and got home late. He told his mother that the teacher had spanked him and kept him after school. His mother was there with us and heard the whole story. She said she'd take of the situation, and we're quite certain that she will, as she was very embarrassed. In fact, we could hear her giving the kid a real paddling as we left—and a hard one."

Lead Attempt

Type of Story: Descriptive

A mother is going on with her day pretty normally until the boy comes home claiming that his teacher assaulted and hit him. Upon the mother's request police officers were dispatched to the house to evaluate the events taking place. The mother then claimed her son had told her his teacher had assaulted and injured her child. It was later revealed that the boy had made the whole thing up as an excuse to him being late home. The officers left but can assure you that the mother took care of things from as they were leaving.

Blog#38- Preliminary Task: Feature story practice #2

Today i'm going to be practicing writing my second lead for my feature story.

Background information: A lead is the opening part of a story that catches and pulls the reader into the story. It should capture the spirit of the story and create the proper tone. Can often be longer than one sentence, should be in the third person, and not filled with clichés.

The type of lead I will be attempting today is a Narrative one.

Story

A study at the University of Michigan shatters some myths. The results were announced today. Women have a reputation for gossiping and talking, yet the study found the reputation is undeserved. The study, which required researchers to observe a number of people at work, found that women work both longer and harder than men—that men spend more time goofing off on the job. The study found that the average employed man spends 52 minutes, or 11 percent of each working day, not working: in scheduled coffee breaks, unscheduled rest breaks, at lunch beyond the normal hour and so forth. The average working woman spends only 35 minutes, or 8 percent of her working day, in such scheduled and unscheduled rest breaks. The same study found that the amount of effort expended by women at work is 112 percent that of men. The discrepancy is more dramatic than the statistics indicate because men earn more than women for the same type of work. The average man in the study earned $13 an hour, compared to 9.34 for the average woman. The women tended to hold mainly clerical jobs, but those in managerial positions also outperformed their male counterparts.

Lead Attempt

Type of Story: Narrative

A man is the hardest working person there is, or so they say. Is it actually more women that are goofing off or Is it men? There's a common misconception that it is usually woman who are prone to working less and fooling around more than men. In society most people believe that women rather focus on drama rather than actual work but is this actually true? In a new study conducted the results suggest otherwise.

Blog #37 Preliminary Task: Feature story practice

Today I will be attempting my first lead for my feature writing

Background information: A lead is the opening part of a story that catches and pulls the reader into the story. It should capture the spirit of the story and create the proper tone. Can often be longer than one sentence, should be in the third person, and not filled with clichés.

The type of lead I will be attempting today is a narrative one. A narrative lead simply tells a story.

Story:

Thomas J. Serle works for Parker Bros. Circus, which is in town this week. Performances are scheduled at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. every day through Sunday, beginning today. Serle, who maintains a home in Fort Lauderdale, is a laborer who helps care for the animals at the circus, including 10 elephants.
In a conversation he had with a reporter, he said: "Some people look on work with a circus as a glamorous job. It ain't. But I been doing it all my life, and it's too late for me to change," Parker Bros. Circus Worker Thomas J. I'll be 60 next year. I was born into it. Both my folks were circus people. I started out as an acrobat until I fell and busted a leg. It never healed quite right, so they offered me this job, and I took it. What else could I do? There's all kinds of myths about circuses, like about these elephants here. Some people say they're afraid of mice, but that's crazy. When we pen the elephants up for the winter there's always mice that get in their hay, and it don't bother them none. The elephants never try to run away or stomp them or anything. They share the same cages all winter. And then some people say elephants got a good memory. Hell, some of the ones we got are so dumb they can't remember a simple trick from one year to the next." Serle said. Being the child of two circus performers, Serle was raised on the road with the circus people. Once he was an adult he became an acrobat for the same circus he was raised in. What started out as a promising acrobatic career went south when Serle broke his leg. Now at the age of 60 he tends to his 10 elephants.

Lead attempt:

Type of Lead: Narrative

For his whole life all Thomas J serle has only known about is the circus until an unfortunate took his ability to perform.  As a result, he been serving as the caretaker for the circus animals. "Some people look on work with a circus as a glamorous job. It ain't" Serle said. "But I been doing it all my life, and it's too late for me to change." Circus life isn't exactly what he had hoped for but it's all he's got. Thomas has now reached his sixties and does his best for circus animals.

Blog#35- Tittle of my magazine

While doing research for my magazine I conducted a survey and asked my fellow students  which tittle they would prefer, liked the most, and what they didn't want as a title. After looking at the results I knew I wanted something edgy and bold and striking but powerful which is the same thing most of my classmates want. I also wanted something that spoke to people so I have some of the tittles I used in my survey like hype fashion, fashion scope, fashion sage, fashly, split look, champion, and fashio. I ended up choosing Hype fashion because it stood out the most and most of my classmates like it as well.
