Blog post #6: Camera shots

LONG SHOT

This picture was taken in my neighborhood on my phone. It was a pretty average day with clear skies so there was no rain. The purpose of this photo is typically used to show where I am, and can also be referred to as an establishing shot. For example, at a place, like a carnival, on top of a mountain or a living room. A long shot is also used to show large groups of people, like a group shot of everyone involved in a program or a group demonstrating for a certain cause. Finally, a long shot is used to show all of something, such as a large statue, building or house.

Over the Shoulder shot

This shot requires the camera operator to shoot the camera over a person’s

shoulder to view another person or show what that person is doing. The shot establishes where they are in relation to what they are working on.

Extreme Close Up

This is a picture of my friend, Ricardo and i asked him if i can take a picture of him since he has a class similar to this in his school and hes used to this. In an Extreme close up the subject is magnified beyond what the human eye would usually see. Focuses the audiences' attention on a specific detail. Used for a dramatic effect. This is very similar to the close up shot, but is even closer, which enables the audience to see the real fear of the character in a horror, something which will continue to entice them. It could also focus on some scary paranormal features of activities which can also inject some fear into the audience.

Tilted Shot

A tilted shot is a camera shot in which the camera angle is slanted to one side. This can be used for a very dramatic effect and helps movement, motion, portray unease, disorientation, or desperate action, madness, etc.

Worm's Eye View

This picture was taking in my living room with my phone. It's suppose to represent a worms eye view and show a stuffed animal being looked at from the perspective of a worm. A Worm's eye view is suppose to show what it is to be looking up at an object or looking at an object from the perspective of a worm. Worm's eye view can help make your subject matter appear imposing and even imply a sense of fear.

Bird's eye view

This is a picture of a pepper taken in my kitchen using my phone. The bird's eye view gives an overall shot of a scene. The purpose of the picture was taken to make my subject matter appear smaller, more squat, and insignificant. Bird's eye view gives you an opportunity to show a lot of visual information about your subject. Originally it was dark so you asked me to make it lighter.

Blog post #4-5: Camera angles

LOW-ANGLE VIEW

This shot involves the camera looking up towards the talent, giving the audience the impression that the talent is in a position of power.

HIGH-ANGLE VIEW

A high-angle view involves the camera being placed higher than eye-level, looking down at the talent. This angle is used to establish the talent in a less powerful position.

CLOSE-UP SHOT

A close-up shot is used to isolate what is important in the shot, such as faces. It also is used to enlarge something to give the audience a better look,

such as a close-up of an individual cooking, or a close-up of a hand to demonstrate a manicure.
